Albany's McPhee Claims First Weekly Golf Award of 2009 Spring - AmericaEast.com

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- One of last year's medalists at the America East Women's Golf Championship, Albany junior Amanda McPhee (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) takes home the first weekly Performer of the Week of the 2009 spring season.

McPhee finished fourth out of 19 competitors in the Great Danes’ first competition of the spring, recording a two-day score of 163 at the Fairfield Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. McPhee shot an 83 on the first day and carded a team-low 80 over the second round to lead the Great Danes to a second-place team finish out of a field of five squads. Albany is the reigning America East Women's Golf Champion.

The Great Danes opened up the 2009 spring season at the Fairfield Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C... Junior Amanda McPhee finished fourth individually to lead the team to a second-place finish among five teams... The Great Danes, which had all five of their golfers improve their scores in the final round, posted a two-day team score of 679 over the par-72, 4,473-yard course... McPhee shot team-low scores on each day of the tournament to pace the Great Danes. She shot an 83 on the first day, and carded an 80 during the tournament’s final round to finish with a two-day score of 163... UAlbany’s Annemarie Kissane and Corrin Conroy placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the field of 19 golfers... Kissane shot an 89 on the first day and an 81 over the final 18 holes for a two-day total of 170, while Conroy carded a 90 in the first round and an 81 in the second to finish with a 171... Stephanie Klein recorded a two-day total of 175 which was good for 11th overall, while Jessica Signorelli rounded out the UAlbany golfers with a final mark of 181 to place 14th.

The Boston University golf team kicks off its 2009 spring slate with the Brown Invitational on April 4 and April 5, as new head coach Bruce Chalas will make his debut with the Terriers. In the fall season, BU competed in four invitationals with its best showing coming in the fall finale at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic as it placed third overall. Sophomore Ana Johnson sat atop the Terriers' leaderboard in three of the four invites, and junior Kaitlyn Mardeusz led the way at Sacred Heart. BU's spring schedule will feature three invites before the America East Championships on April 25 and 26.

Hartford opened the spring season with a head-to-head competition against Rutgers University on March 18 at the PGA Village Dye Course. Rutgers won the match with 41.5 points to Hartford's 30.5. The best-ball format consisted of four two-man teams for each side competing for a total of 18 points over 18 holes. The teams of senior Megan Claxton (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop O’Byrne) and junior Catie Dillman (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and freshmen Kelsey Walsh (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) and Marissa Kallaugher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) each came away with 8.5 points to lead the Hawks... Freshman Emily Linn (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Englewood) had the lowest scoring average (82.22) of any Hartford golfer during the fall season. She played in the final five tournaments of the fall and recorded the first top-10 finish of her career (T-8) at the Sacred Heart Invitational...Hartford will next compete at the Hoya Invitational on March 30-31 in Beallsville, Md.
