Binghamton's Vloedgraven, Bates Sweep Tennis Weekly Awards - AmericaEast.com

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Binghamton University swept this week's America East Tennis Performer of the Week honors as Sven Vloedgraven (Loche, Netherlands/Isendoorn College) and Lauren Bates (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore West) led the Bearcats men's and women's programs to respective victories.

Vloedgraven, a second-team all-conference selection at No. 2 singles a year ago, ran his win streak to six with two more victories.  Playing at the second position, he earned a straight-set win against UMBC, rallying from 0-5 down in the first set and running off 11 straight games. He then moved up to the No. 1 slot and posted a convincing win over George Washington. Vloedgraven, who also had a doubles win last week, raised his singles record to 20-7 overall, 11-2 in dual matches.

Bates, also a second-team all-league choice at second singles in 2008, won her third consecutive match at No. 1 singles in Binghamton's 7-0 sweep of Quinnipiac on Sunday with a straight-set four and four victory. In addition, Bates and freshman Emma Leibowicz won an 8-2 decision at No. 3 doubles against Quinnipiac. For the season, Bates is 15-7 in singles (including an 8-3 mark in dual matches) and 13-4 in doubles play.
