CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Stony Brook’s Halvar Dil (Amersfort, Netherlands) and Boston University’s Petra Santini (Sibenik, Croatia/Gimanzija Za Dopisno Obrazovanje Birotehnika) earned the first America East men and women’s Tennis Performer of the Week honors for the 2009 spring season.
Dil, a junior, has the best win total on the team in singles posting a 13-4 record. His wins in singles and doubles at Princeton on Sunday helped the Seawolves top Princteon for the first time in nine matchups during the school’s history.
In her rookie season Santini boasts an undefeated record of 7-0 in singles competition and 6-0 in doubles, leading the Terriers to a 7-1 record so far this spring. Her singles point against Harvard edged the Terriers past the Crimson in a hard-fought 4-3 victory.
Albany- The Albany women, led by senior Kim Weltman, are 6-1 so far this season with their only loss coming at the hands of Massachusetts. Weltman has a 4-1 record in singles this season, and a 3-1 record in doubles.
Binghamton- The Bearcat men have recorded an 8-3 record so far this season, posting impressive wins over nationally-ranked Drake and Ivy League members Brown, Princeton and Dartmouth. The women sit at 8-2 overall, with a 1-0 record in America East with their victory over Hartford.
Boston- The Terrier women have won 19 America East Championships and have begun a strong 2009 campaign with a 7-1 record overall, and 1-0 in America East competition, topping Stony Brook. The men, coached by first-year head coach Rick Edelmann, are in the midst of their training trip in Florida and are looking for their first win of the spring season.
Stony Brook- The Stony Brook women earned their first ever win at Army in a narrow 4-3 victory after 10 matchups with the Black Knights. The men have already racked up six dual-match victories this season, almost reaching their total of nine victories in the 2008 season.
