Three Things I Can’t Live Without:

Q. Why I Chose Stony Brook University:
A- I chose Stony Brook University because of the Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center and the academic advisor. On my recruiting trip when I walked into the Center I couldn’t believe how much Stony Brook supports their students’ academic part of their life. We have an academic advisor who helps us to balance school and basketball, a computer lab, large study hall, and tutors all available to us. I knew that if I came to Stony Brook there would be someone watching over me in academics just like in basketball.
Q. Favorite class and why:
A- My favorite class at Stony Brook University was Bio 101 with Matt Schmidt. The class was very interesting and he taught it in such a way that we could really grasp the concepts. He was also just a nice guy and for a teacher to be approachable it makes learning that much easier.
Q. One thing I have learned at Stony Brook that I will carry with me for the rest of my life is:
A- The one thing I have learned at Stony Brook that I will carry with me for the rest of my life is that New York is very cold in the winter and I could never live here.
Q. My Dream Job, other than the NBA/WNBA, is:
A- My dream job, other than the NBA, is to be a 4th grade teacher
Q. The person, other than my parents, who has had the most influence on me is, and why:
A- The person who has had the most influence on me other than my parents is my brother Kevin. He taught me how to play basketball and has always been there for me.
Q. The best thing about being a Stony Brook Seawolf is:
A- The best thing about being a Stony Brook Seawolf is the Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center. It’s the best in the America East conference, and probably the best on the East Coast.
Q. Most memorable moment as an athlete:
A- My most memorable moment as an athlete was when we won the high school state title. We were the underdogs but we played really well and ended up winning. It meant a lot to win the title, but even more because we were able to beat the team that was projected to win.
Q. What I did this week as a student (classes, tests, projects, study hall):
A- We got into our routine of study hall and classes. I have a lot of reading to do this semester but it has all been very interesting. My favorite class this semester is my Women’s Issues in the Law class. I thought as a country we were past treating women unfairly but as I’m learning in this Politics class, we are far from that. I spent an entire study hall session reading briefs on cases about women’s issues in the law so I can be ready to participate in class on Tuesday.
Q. What I did this week as an athlete (practice, games):
A- Last week was a crazy week athletically. We had to miss an entire day of class on Monday to travel to play at Maine on Tuesday. We played hard and won, but then couldn’t get back to school after the game and had to spend another night. The trip lasted 3 days and I’m just happy we won because the bus ride back from Maine is bad enough, but after a loss and an extra night it would’ve been awful. We played Binghamton on Saturday at home but didn’t play hard at the end and lost the game. We had the day off on Sunday but all of us were ready to come back on Monday and get ready for Albany on Thursday.
Q. Based upon my experiences growing up, my advice for young kids about school and athletics is:
A- Based upon my experiences growing up, my advice for young kids about school and athletics is that you really need to work hard academically in high school because if you fall behind early, you’ll need to battle uphill to get a high GPA in your later years. If your GPA is low because you slacked off early, that means you’ll need even higher SAT scores to go to college. If you just try hard from your freshmen year, it will make it that much easier to go to college.
Q. Why I am looking forward to the America East Basketball Championship:
A- I am looking forward to the America East Basketball Championship because I want to win and go to the tournament
