CAMBRIDGE,
Mass. - The men's soccer conference tournament seeds are set
and the University of New Hampshire (9-5-2 overall, 6-0-1 America East) has claimed
the top seed as well as five votes in the NSCAA national poll this week.
The Wildcats, who've clinched the regular season title, are
ranked fifth in the Northeast after posting their best conference record since
1994. New Hampshire extended its unbeaten streak to seven games after defeating
conference rival Binghamton (9-7-1, 4-3-0 AE), 2-1, on Wednesday. The Wildcats
close their regular season with a game against Dartmouth tonight. After
capturing the final tournament spot, Boston University (9-6-2, 3-4-0 AE) has
climbed back into the regional rankings at 10th. The Terriers
finished regular season play with two wins over conference opponents Vermont (1-10-5,
1-4-2 AE), 2-1, and Albany (0-13-3, 0-6-1 AE), 3-2. The win over the Catamounts
clinched the final tournament spot for Boston U. The Terriers take on Hartford (7-7-2,
4-2-1 AE) on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the conference championship.
The University at Albany (12-4 overall, 4-1 America East)
field hockey team falls one spot to #17 this week in the NFHCA national poll after
suffering a loss to conference opponent New Hampshire, 2-1, in its America East
finale. UAlbany has captured a share of the regular-season title for the
second-straight season. Boston U. (8-11, 4-1 AE) earned 41 votes in the Kookaburra
rankings followed by Maine with 20 votes and New Hampshire with 12. The
Terriers split their final two games of the regular season, defeating
conference foe Maine before falling to Providence, 2-0. Maine (12-6, 3-2 AE)
closed its regular season with a 1-0 loss to Boston U. The Wildcats (11-6, 3-2
AE) extended their winning streak to three games after beating then-#16
UAlbany. The win over the Great Danes is New Hampshire's second victory over a
nationally-ranked opponent. All four teams begin postseason play on Friday at
Albany's Alumni Turf Field when UAlbany faces New Hampshire and Boston U. plays
Maine in the America East Championship semifinals.
Stony Brook's women's cross country team remains in the
top-five in the Northeast region, earning a ranking of fifth after claiming the
school's third-straight conference title. On Saturday, Maine finished second followed
by Vermont in third and New Hampshire in fourth. Maine, Vermont and New
Hampshire all received regional rankings, placing 12th, 13th
and 14th, respectively. Boston U., which tied for fifth with Albany,
came in 15th in the Northeast.
After capturing their first America East conference
title, the Bearcats' men's cross country squad remains solidly at ninth in the
USTFCCCA Northeast regional rankings. Second and third-place finishers New
Hampshire and Stony Brook also garnered regional rankings, placing 12th
and 14th. The cross country squads next compete in the NCCA
Northeast Regionals on November 14.
The Boston U. women's soccer team (13-5-2 overall) has
earned a spot in the finals of the championship tournament and is now tied for
eighth in the Northeast with Connecticut. On Sunday, the Terriers topped Stony
Brook (7-10-2), 2-1, in overtime to send them to the championship game this
Saturday against Binghamton (9-6-2).
