America East in the Polls: UNH men's soccer Stays Unbeaten in Conference Play, Garners Top Regional Ranking - AmericaEast.com

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Off to a 4-0 start in America East conference play, University of New Hampshire's men's soccer team has claimed the top Northeast ranking by an America East team this week. The Wildcats downed both previously ranked America East teams, Boston University and UMBC, and is ranked first in the conference.

The New Hampshire men's soccer team (7-5-1, 4-0-0 AE) is ranked 8th in the NSCAA Northeast rankings. The Wildcats edged Vermont (1-7-5, 1-1-2 AE), 1-0, on Saturday and then defeated Hartford (5-6-2, 2-1-1 AE), 4-1, on Wednesday. The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday against UAlbany (0-10-3, 0-3-1 AE). UMBC (10-3-0, 1-2-0 AE) has slipped to 10th and is now tied with Villanova for the spot. The Retrievers suffered their third loss of the season, falling 3-2 in overtime to Longwood. UMBC next visits Boston U. before returning home to host Albany for the final game of the regular season. Binghamton (7-5-1, 2-1-0 AE) received votes for the regional poll after beating Boston U. (7-5-2, 1-3-0 AE), 2-1, on Friday. They next travel for three road games.

University at Albany's field hockey team (11-3, 3-0 AE) remained strong at No. 18 in the NFHCA national rankings. The Great Danes went undefeated last week, beating conference foe Vermont, 2-0, and crosstown-rival Siena, 4-0. UAlbany next visits conference rival Boston U. on Saturday. Boston University (7-8, 3-0 AE), University of Maine (11-4, 2-1 AE) and University of New Hampshire (9-6. 1-2 AE) all received votes for the Kookaburra poll, garnering 40, 39 and 20 votes, respectively. Boston U. remains unbeaten in conference play after tallying a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over New Hampshire. The Terriers also posted a 3-1 win over Harvard. Boston U. plays No. 7 Connecticut on Wednesday before hosting No. 18 Albany on Saturday. Maine rose to 2-1 in conference play after defeating Fairfield (4-11, 0-3 AE), 4-3, on Saturday. The Black Bears face two conference opponents next weekend, first facing Vermont (1-13, 0-3 AE) before taking on New Hampshire. New Hampshire fell to conference rival Boston U. last weekend, 2-1, but rebounded downing then-No. 9 Boston College, 3-2. The Wildcats return to action when they host Fairfield on their Senior Day this Saturday.

Boston University's women's soccer team (10-5-2, 6-1-0 America East) fell out of the NSCAA Northeast rankings this week, but still received votes in the poll. The Terriers suffered their first conference loss of the season, falling 2-1 to Stony Brook (6-8-2, 5-1-1 AE), but ended the week on a high note, defeating Hartford (4-10-2, 0-5-1 AE), 1-0. Boston U. next plays Bryant before closing out the regular season against UMBC (2-12-1, 1-5-0 AE).

In the women's cross country USTFCCCA regional rankings, Stony Brook fell to sixth while New Hampshire entered the rankings coming in 12th. The Seawolves placed sixth out of 18 teams at the Penn State Invitational, which included three top-25 nationally-ranked teams and two regionally-ranked squads. Stony Brook next competes against Manhattan and Iona on Wednesday. Vermont and Maine also earned rankings, placing 14th and 15th, respectively. The Catamounts won the Saint Michael's Invitational and senior Aly Millett (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) captured the women's individual title. Vermont next hosts the America East Championship on October 31.

Two men's squads captured regional rankings this week with Binghamton coming in 10th and New Hampshire placing 14th. The Bearcats captured sixth out of 24 teams at the UAlbany Invitational. Binghamton next races at the America East Championship.
