Kerri Fagan Named Senior Associate Commissioner - AmericaEast.com
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ? America East Commissioner Patrick Nero announced today that Kerri Fagan, former Associate Director of Championships at the NCAA, has been hired as Senior Associate Commissioner effective September 2.
“We are extremely excited to have Kerri join our staff,” said Nero. “She brings over 15 years of experience as a leader in intercollegiate athletics. Kerri’s strengths in sport and championship administration will have a wonderful impact on our conference and especially our student-athletes.”
In her new role, Fagan will oversee the conference’s daily operations, including policies and procedures, conference championships and the annual budget. She will direct all women’s basketball operations, including the league schedule, oversight of officials and the conference championship. Fagan will also serve as a liaison to various groups including the Athletic Directors’ Council, Strategic Planning Committee, Championships and Competition Committee and the Senior Woman Administrators.
“I am excited about the opportunity to join the America East Conference staff and become part of the conference community,” said Fagan. “I am looking forward to working with the member institutions and being part of the future of the conference.”
Fagan, who has over 15 years of experience in college athletics, has spent the previous seven years at the NCAA, including the last six as Associate Director of Championships. She was hired as Assistant Director of Championships in 2001 to coordinate NCAA Championships in the sports of Division I women’s lacrosse, National Collegiate men’s and women’s skiing, Division II and III field hockey, Division III women’s ice hockey and Division III women’s golf. Fagan administered and managed all aspects of the championships, including the planning and execution, as well as oversight of the budget and event staff.
Once promoted to Associate Director of Championships, Fagan was a member of the NCAA’s Championships Leadership Team, the Division III Governance Team and served as a liaison to the Division III Championships Committee to help promote and develop all of the NCAA’s championships. She also served as an NCAA liaison to external groups, including various coaches associations, NACDA and National Governing Bodies.
Prior to joining the NCAA, Fagan served as Assistant Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at Indiana State University for four years. In Terre Haute, Fagan oversaw facility and game management for the University’s 15 intercollegiate programs. She prepared and managed program budgets, maintained the master facilities schedule and oversaw maintenance projects to improve facilities. Fagan also developed bids for hosting NCAA and Missouri Valley Conference Championships and served as tournament director at various events for both organizations.
Fagan has also served as a project coordinator for the Indianapolis Local Organizing Committee in preparation for the 1997 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four and transportation manager for the United States Olympic Festival in Denver in 1995.
Fagan, who played collegiate field hockey at University of Massachusetts, became involved in United States Field Hockey Association’s youth program, serving as program director for the youth and Olympic development programs. She currently serves on the organization’s Board of Directors.
A native of Burrillville, R.I., Fagan earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management from UMass in 1992 and also earned a master’s degree in sport administration from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1995. She is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women’s Athletics Administrators.
