Several America East Athletes Vie for Spot on U.S. Olympic Teams - AmericaEast.com

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- With the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China under two months away, several America East athletes will make appearances at the Track & Field and Swimming U.S. Team Trials beginning this week.

The U.S. Team Trials for track & field begins June 27 and runs through July 7 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Boston University's Tahari James qualified in the triple jump and will compete on Friday, June 27 at 5:40 p.m. local time, while Binghamton University's Rory Quiller qualified in the men's pole vault and will compete in the qualifiers on Friday at 5:50 p.m. James is coming off two straight All-America performances at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2008. Quiller finished his Bearcat career winning the NCAA Indoor National Championship in the pole vault, becoming America East's second national champion.

Boston University's Marisa Ryan (10,000 meters) and University at Albany's Joe Greene (400m hurdles) also qualified for the trials on a provisional basis. Qualifying provisionally means an athlete met the 'B' cut and will be eligible to compete in the trials if the number of athletes making the 'A' cut do not fill the field. Greene would compete Friday at 7:05 p.m. local time and Ryan would run at 9:20 Friday night.

UMBC swimmer Tina Cantwell is seeded for the U.S. Swimming Team Trials spanning June 29-July 7 in Omaha, Neb. Cantwell will compete in the 100 meter breaststroke on Monday, June 30 at the Qwest Center. Cantwell, the 2008 America East Champion in the event, qualified back in March with a time of 1:12:02.
