CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- With a strong performance in the second-round of the Hartford Invitational on Tuesday, University of Hartford junior Megan Claxton (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop O'Byrne) was named the America East Golf Performer of the Week.
Claxton finished tied for seventh at the Hartford Invitational in West Hartford, Conn., shooting a 164. Her score of 80 on the final day of competition, a three-stroke improvement over her 84 on the first day, helped the Hawks finish fourth as a team. Hartford sat in sixth-place after the first day's round.

Great Danes shot an opening round 327 to take a one-stroke lead over Sacred
Heart after the first day of the Hartford Invitational on Monday, April 14 at
the par-72, 5,803-yard Rockledge Golf Course in West Hartford, Conn., but slipped to fifth-place with a final score of 678. Sophomore
Amanda McPhee placed fourth in the first round with an 80, but was disqualified during the second round of play. Sophomore Jessica
Signorelli and senior Maggie Taylert each carded rounds of 82 to finish tied
for seventh place after the first round. Signorelli fired a 39 on the first nine holes, the
second-best showing of the day. Freshman Corrin Conroy finished in a three-way
tie for ninth with a first-day score of 83 to round out the Great Danes’
top-four scores. Conway
closed her round with a 37, the best score of the 33 competitors, on the
back-nine.
The Boston University golf team placed third out of five teams at the
Mount St. Mary's Spring Thing on Monday afternoon. The squad carded a
707 over the two-day tourney and was led by Allison Hamilton, who finished fourth overall (82-84--166). The Terriers shot a 360 on the first day and improved on day two (347) to finish with a 707. Hamilton was followed by Onike Williams (89-90--179), Hannah Barry (94-87--181), Kaitlyn Mardeusz (97-86--183) and Rachel Oppenheimer (95-93--188). BU will return to action on Friday, April 18 in the Mass College Championship in Hadley, Mass.
The University of Hartford women’s golf
team moved up two spots on Tuesday to finish fourth at the Hartford
Invitational at Rockledge Golf Course. Senior Juliana Carrillo and junior Megan Claxton
each tied for seventh overall at 164 to pace the Hawks. Carrillo shaved
two strokes off her first round total to shoot 81 on Tuesday while
Claxton carded the lowest round (80) by a Hartford golfer for the
tournament. Sophomores Sadie Heald, Kara Sikorski and Paige Gauthier
rounded out the scoring for Hartford. Heald shot 84 and tied for 15th
at 171. Sikorski shot consecutive rounds of 88 to finish tied for 21st
at 176 while Gauthier finished 24th at 177. Classmate Catie Dillman, playing as an individual, placed 27th at 184. Hartford will next compete at the CCSU Invitational on April 19-20 at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain, Conn.
