UMBC's Jackson and Mungo Sweep Weekly Tennis Awards - AmericaEast.com
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- UMBC has swept this week's America East tennis honors as David Jackson (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and Anna Mungo (Summit, N.J./Summit) have been named the Men's and Women's Tennis Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards for the week ending March 31 were announced on April 1.
Jackson, a senior, improved to 9-4 this spring with three straight-set victories in singles over Georgetown, Bucknell and George Washington. He also combined with teammate Irfan Shamasdin to win two of three doubles matches
and is 9-4 at top doubles this spring. Jackson, who was named the Most Outstanding Player at last year's America East Championship, has won nine of his last 10 singles matches the fourth position and has 111 victories for his career.
Mungo, a freshman, was a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles action last week. All three singles wins came at the top position, including a three-set victory over Bucknell, where Mungo dropped first set 0-6, but rallied to take the final two frames 6-2, 6-2. Mungo, who is a combined 14-5 this year, also won all three of her doubles matches last week and has won six straight doubles matches overall.
