BOSTON ? Boston University extended its lead to 29 points in the 2006-07 America East’s Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner’s Cup standings after a successful winter season. The Commissioner’s Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic program in America East as determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success both during the regular season and at championship competition in the conference’s 22 sports. Boston University jumps to 242 points on the season, just ahead of second-place University of Vermont which has 213 points. University at Albany rose to third place in the standings with 205 points. Binghamton University has 202 points for fourth place, followed by University of New Hampshire (186), University of Maine (174), UMBC (163), Stony Brook University (144) and University of Hartford (139).
Boston University extended its lead by winning the women’s indoor track & field championship and finishing runner up in the women’s swimming & diving championship.
Vermont made big moves in the standings, going from fifth to second, with the men’s basketball team winning the regular-season title and finishing runner up in tournament play.
Albany moved up one spot with the men’s indoor track & field team win the conference title and the men’s basketball team taking home the conference championship for the second-straight season.
Binghamton’s men’s swimming & diving team took runner up at the championship to bring in some points for the Bearcats.
The majority of New Hampshire’s points came in its second-place finish in the men’s indoor track & field championship.
UMBC received quality points from its women’s basketball team that became the first seven seed to win the conference championship.
Hartford earned points with its second-straight regular-season title in women’s basketball.
The Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner’s Cup is named in honor of the first commissioner of America East. Haskell served as commissioner of the conference from 1987 until his retirement in 1997.

Haskell, Jr. Commissioner’s Cup is as follows: In sports where regular-season round robin competition is conducted, the first-place institution in the final standings receives four points times the total number of teams involved in conference play. The second-place institution receives four less points; third place receives eight less points, and so on. Additionally, the America East (tournament) champion receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place receives four less points and so on down to the last-place institution which receives two points.
