Stony Brook Week Seven: Ricky Lucas - AmericaEast.com

Q:: Three things I can't live without...
A:: God. Family. Basketball.

Q:: Why I chose Stony Brook University...
A:: I chose Stony Brook University because I thought it would give me a positive educational and athletic experience.  After being here a year and a half I know I made the right decision. I transferred from George Washington University and I already knew Coach Pikiell before I got here. He was a big part of my decision and I am happy that I came to Stony Brook.

Q:: Favorite class and why...
A::  My favorite class at Stony Brook University was my Geology class.  I liked taking the class because we learned a lot about the earth’s natural wonders. I was hesitant to take the class at first but it was very interesting and informative.

Q:: One thing I have learned at Stony Brook that I will carry with me for the rest of my life is...
A:: One thing I have learned at Stony Brook that I will carry with me for the rest of my life is that you always need to work hard. It doesn’t matter if it’s in basketball or a job after college; if you don’t work hard then you won’t get the things in life that you want.

Q:: Other than playing in the NBA, my dream job is...
A::  I would love to be a coach.

Q:: Other than my parents, the person who has had the most influence on me is and why...
A:: One of my old coaches influenced me a lot in the sense that he showed me the importance of hard work. He always reminded me that there are always people out there who are working harder and you can never settle for doing average work. If you want to achieve your goals, you always have to push yourself because someone else, in some gym somewhere, is working harder.

Q:: The best thing about being a Stony Brook Seawolf is...
A:: The best thing about being a Stony Brook Seawolf is the team unity we have. We had a lot of new guys on the court this year and we all came together united as one team.

Q:: Most memorable moment as an athlete...
A:: The most memorable moment as an athlete that I have is when George Washington University went to the NCAA tournament. That was an awesome feeling but I want to do it as a Seawolf now.

Q:: What I did this week as a student...
A:: Last week we had a test in my Mec class on Thursday so I spent Tuesday and Wednesday preparing for that. I also have a History quiz today so I had to bring my books to Maine so I could study on the plane. I’m not in mandatory study hall but I did use the Goldstein Academic Center a couple times because it’s a good place to study. We’re missing two days of school for the tournament so I want to get all of my studying done so I can just focus on the games.

Q:: What I did this week as an athlete...
A::  Last week we had a pretty routine week. We lifted three times and practiced every day except for one. We watched film and had the scouting report for Albany in preparation for the game on Thursday. Then we had a quick turnaround for our Maine game - we practiced at school on Friday and then flew to Maine on Saturday where we practiced. That was a long day of travel because we had to drive almost three hours from the airport to our hotel. We played Maine on Sunday but couldn’t pull off a win.

Q:: Based upon my experiences growing up, my advice for young kids about school and athletics is...
A:: My advice for young kids about school and athletics is to work hard, compete, and never stop getting better.

Q:: Why I am looking forward to the America East Men’s Basketball Championship at Agganis Arena in Boston on March 2-4...
A::I am looking forward to the America East Men’s Basketball Championship because I plan on being in the championship game on March 10.
