Binghamton Week Six: Steve Proctor - AmericaEast.com

Q:: Three things I can't live without...
A:: My mom. Basketball. My sense of humor.

Q:: Why I chose Binghamton University...
A:: I chose Binghamton University because it is a whole lot closer to home than where I was in Pensacola Florida.  It gave my family an opportunity to come and see me play for the first time since high school. I also like the atmosphere here.  It’s a great school and has great people.

Q:: Favorite class and why...
A::  Practicing Social Work, because it was easy and I was taking it with my favorite teacher.

Q:: One thing I have learned at Binghamton that I will carry with me for the rest of my life is...
A:: To pay more attention to the little things.  Try to develop a closer lens so that you can see things for what they really are and see who people really are, and not what they show you.  Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.

Q:: Other than playing in the NBA, my dream job is...
A::  To be doing something in advertising or marketing because I enjoy the commercials that come on during the super bowl and I one day would like to be the one who comes up with the idea of the commercial.  I am also good at coming up with planning ideas, like throwing ideas out there about an event that is going on; how to structure it and things like that..

Q:: Other than my parents, the person who has had the most influence on me is and why...
A:: The person who has had the most influence on me has been my teacher Gary Smith because he is the most down to earth person I know.  He is not afraid to say what he thinks and I like to hear what he has to say.  He is a prime example of what a good person and leader is.  He taught me how to recognize when someone is not going about doing their job correctly.

Q:: The best thing about being a Binghamton Bearcat is...
A:: The best thing about being a Bearcat is the fans and the atmosphere.  The fans make you feel wanted whether you’re the leading scorer on the team or the last guy off the bench.  It’s like a great big family; everyone wants to see the team do well.  They treat everyone the same no matter what.  If you are on the team, you are part of the family.

Q:: Most memorable moment as an athlete...
A:: My most memorable moment was when we beat the University of Miami, in Miami this year and I was one of the stars of the game.

Q:: What I did this week as a student...
A:: Nothing because school was cancelled because of snow storm.

Q:: What I did this week as an athlete...
A:: Well this week was mainly practice because we got snowed in and our New Hampshire game was postponed. We played at Albany Sunday and lost a close game.

Q:: Based upon my experiences growing up, my advice for young kids about school and athletics is...
A:: Stay in school and keep your grades up.  You can’t play basketball or any sport unless your grades are on point.  Whether your going to school to play sports or your playing sport just because your in school, you have to keep your grades up because when its all said and done what else will you have.

Q:: Why I am looking forward to the America East Men’s Basketball Championship at Agganis Arena in Boston on March 2-4...
A::I’m looking forward to it because this is my senior year and I want something besides the Miami game to remember it by, so I want to win.
