Boston U, Week Five: Scott Britain - AmericaEast.com

Q:: Three things I can't live without...
A:: Loved Ones. Basketball. Video Games.

Q:: Why I chose Boston University...
A:: It had a mix of great academics and a good basketball program mixed with the type of school I was looking for.

Q:: Favorite class and why...
A::  Sport psychology, because it teaches me techniques that I can apply to basketball to make me a better teammate.

Q:: One thing I have learned at Boston U. that I will carry with me for the rest of my life is...
A:: Never be late for anything. Being early is the only acceptable thing.

Q:: Other than playing in the NBA, my dream job is...
A::  To run my own business.

Q:: Other than my parents, the person who has had the most influence on me is and why...
A:: My Grandfather, because he has taught me to value money and the importance of working hard for what I want to achieve.

Q:: The best thing about being a Boston U. Terrier is...
A:: Everything. I love being a Terrier, and I cannot picture myself being anything else.

Q:: Most memorable moment as an athlete...
A:: I have two. Making the Canadian Junior National team and competing for them and accepting my scholarship to Boston University.

Q:: What I did this week as a student...
A:: I have 15 hours of classes which includes lectures, discussions and classrooms. Monday, Wednesday and Fridays I have a 10am class, an 11am class and a 12o’clock discussion. Tuesdays and Thursdays, I have a 9:30am class followed by an 11o’clock class. On top of classes, there is a mandatory 8 hours of study hall that I usually do after practices. We have to do a minimum of two hours on Sunday nights, but I try and get my eight hours done within the first three nights of the week. Study hall is good though because if you work hard in it, there is not a lot of work that needs to be done outside of that.

Q:: What I did this week as an athlete...
A:: We started off the week with a game in Vermont on Monday night, which means that we traveled to Vermont on Sunday and went through our game routine all day Monday. We had Tuesday off to catch up on some academics stuff; practiced Wednesday at 3 o’clock for about 2 and a half hours, then we had a game on Thursday night at home verse Binghamton in which we won. Friday, we practiced at 3pm, and had a lift after practice. Saturday we practiced in the morning, and then drove to New Hampshire to play a game on Sunday.

Q:: Based upon my experiences growing up, my advice for young kids about school and athletics is...
A:: Every athlete loves the sport they play. If they had it their way, they would do nothing but that sport. What is going to happen after you get too old to play, or you get injured your first game playing professionally? If you did not work hard in school, you will have nothing to fall back on once you stop playing the game you love. Work hard with your sport, but work twice as hard in the classroom, because that is the stuff that will last twice as long as your ability to perform.

Q:: Why I am looking forward to the America East Men’s Basketball Championship at Agganis Arena in Boston on March 2-4...
A::It is going to be a great atmosphere to compete in. It is what we have been looking forward to playing in the whole year. I want my team to make it to the NCAA tournament, and we must win this championship to get there; not to mention that winning this tournament in itself is a great accomplishment.
