2003 America East Championship


The 2003 America East Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship will return to a single-site format at The Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn. The three-day event will be held Firday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27.

America East member institutions?University at Albany (women only), Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Hartford, University of New Hampshire, Stony Brook University and Vermont?will compete at the 2002 Tennis Championships.

Boston University has dominated women’s tennis winning each of the 12 championships it has entered. Vermont won the championship in 1993 when Boston University did not compete due to its commitment to the Rolex Championship. Hartford won its first men’s championship since 1995 last spring.

Both the men’s and women’s championship formats consist of three doubles matches and six singles matches. Doubles matches are played first using eight-game pro sets with a 12-point tie-break at eight games all. The team that wins two or more of the three doubles matches receives one point in the team scoring. The doubles matches are followed by the singles matches using a best two-of-three sets format. Each singles match is worth one point. A minimum of four points is required to win the team match.
