BOSTON - The Stony Brook University men and the University of New Hampshire women lead after day one of the 2006 America East Swimming & Diving Championship at Boston University's Aquatic Center.
Stony Brook's Julian Acedvedo won the men's one-meter diving title with a score of 298.90 to pace the Seawolves to an early lead. The UMBC men's 800-yard freestyle relay squad topped the podium with a time of 6:49.26, while the Binghamton men took the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.14)
On the women's side of things, the New Hampshire Wildcats swept the only two events on the day. UNH was victorious in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:30.70) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.21).
Friday’s prelims begin at 10 a.m. in the 500-freestyle, 200-individual medley, 50-freestyle and men’s three-meter dive. Finals for these events, as well as the 200-freestyle relay will commence at 6 p.m.
Saturday’s prelims will begin at 10 a.m. for the 400-individual medley, 100-butterfly, 200-freestyle, 100-breaststroke and 100-backstroke. Finals will start at 5:30 p.m. and will include these events, and the men’s three-meter dive and 400-medley relay.
On Sunday, prelims start at 10 a.m. and include the 1650-freestyle, 200-backstroke, 100-freestyle, 200-breaststroke, 400-freestyle and 200-butterfly. The championships for these events will follow, starting at 5:30 p.m., and include the one-meter dive.
This weekend marks the first time the event is being held at the Boston University Aquatic Center, after last year being held at the UMBC Natorium.
Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Maine, UMBC, University of New Hampshire, Stony Brook University and University of Vermont (women only) will all vie for the 2006 Swimming and Diving Championship.
