Boston University Advances to Men's Soccer Championship
Boston, Mass. ? The top-seeded Boston University men’s soccer team defeated No. 5 Stony Brook 2-0 Wednesday night at Nickerson Field to advance to the title game of the 2004 America East Men’s Soccer Championship. The Terriers will host No. 3 Binghamton, who upset No. 2 Albany earlier in the day, 3-1, in the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

America East All-Conference Second Team selection Federico Bianchi provided all of the offense that Boston University needed when he took a Brian Conway pass and sent it past Stony Brook goalkeeper John Moschella at the 25:39 mark. Bianchi then provided an insurance goal for the Terriers at 67:14 on an unassisted goal.

A senior midfielder, Bianchi netted just three goals in 17 games played this season prior to Wednesday’s semifinal. Terrier goalie Chad Comroe recorded three saves in net enroute to his seventh shutout on the season.

Boston University improves to 10-7-1 on the year, while Stony Brook’s season comes to an end with an 11-6-3 mark.

Sunday’s title game, which can be followed live on the internet at AmericaEast.com, will pit two former conference champions against one another. The Bearcats are looking to repeat as league champs, while the Terriers are in search of their sixth title, the most in America East history.

The America East champion earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championships.
