The 2001 America East Field Hockey Championship will be decided Sunday, November 4. The semifinals are set for Friday, November 2. The four-team tournament will be held at Sweeney Field on Huntington Avenue. Top seed Northeastern University is the host.
Semifinals games will be played Friday, November 2 at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The championship game is slated for Sunday, November 4 at 2 p.m.
Northeastern is the No. 1 seed. Boston University is the No. 2 seed. University of Delaware is the No. 3 seed and University of Maine is the No. 4 seed.
The winner of the America East Championship receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Field Hockey Championship. Last season, Boston University defeated New Hampshire, 2-1, to earn its second-straight America East title. Both the Terriers and Wildcats advanced to the 16-team NCAA Field Hockey Championship.
America East has been well represented in recent NCAA Field Hockey Championships. The conference has placed multiple teams into the tournament in two of the last three years and three of the last five. Northeastern advanced to the 1996 NCAA semifinals before falling 2-1 to North Carolina.
