Maine Advances to America East Championship Game

BOSTON? Junior Aime Dubois scored with 22:01 left to break a scoreless tie and Maine went on to defeat New Hampshire, 2-0, to advance to the America East Field Hockey Championship. The third-seeded Black Bears, who have never won the conference title, play top-seeded Northeastern, a 3-1 winner over Boston University in the other semifinal, Sunday at 2 p.m. at Sweeney Field. The Huskies have won two-straight America East Championships and a conference-best eight in the 14-year history of the championship.

The first goal came as the Black Bears initially missed on a penalty corner, however Dubois had good position for the rebound and managed to lift the ball over New Hampshire goalkeeper Christine Buckley’s head and into the upper left corner of the net.

The Maine defense limited the Wildcats to just one shot on senior goalkeeper Jaye Lance, who collected her eighth shutout of the season. Buckley, who faced nine shots, made six saves for the Wildcats.

Sophomore Kasey Spencer added a goal with just 14 seconds left for the Black Bears’ final margin of victory.

Maine improves to 15-5 overall. New Hampshire finishes the season at 10-11.

The championship game is a rematch of last season’s final when top-seeded Northeastern defeated third-seeded Maine, 4-0.

The America East champion earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Field Hockey Championship.
