BOSTON — Tom Wilkins has been named Assistant Director of Communications at America East Conference, while Director of Communications K.J. Cardinal has been elevated to Assistant Commissioner for Communications.
Wilkins comes to America East after serving as Assistant Sports Information Director for two years at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. While there he served as the primary contact for the Bobcats' men's soccer, men's basketball, baseball and golf teams.
Prior to his work at Quinnipiac, Wilkins worked as a media relations assistant at the University of New Hampshire. He served as the primary contact for men's soccer and men's basketball and assisted with football, cross country and track, as well as the nationally recognized men’s and women's ice hockey programs.
Wilkins was also a student assistant in sports information at Assumption College during his four years at AC. He ran Assumption Web-Radio Network during his senior year, the program's first year.
Wilkins has also worked with several major championship events including the 2004 Frozen Four, the 2004 NCAA Hockey Regional in Manchester, N.H., the 2004 Boston Beanpot, and the 2002 NCAA Hockey Regional in Worcester, Mass.
A native of Pelham, N.H., Wilkins was a 2003 graduate of Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in communications and history. He recently earned his master's degree in Interactive Communication at Quinnipiac.
Cardinal moves to the position of Assistant Commissioner for Communications after three seasons with the conference. In his first two seasons with America East, Cardinal served as Assistant Director of Communications and was Director of Communications for the 2005-06 campaign.
Cardinal served as the Co-Media Coordinator for the 2006 Women's Final Four, which was held in Boston, Mass. For the 2005 Women's Final Four, he served on the Media Coordination Committee in Indianapolis, Ind. and also worked for the NCAA as the Timeout Coordinator at the 2004 Women's East Regional in Hartford, Conn. and the 2005 Women's Philadelphia Regional.
Cardinal graduated Cum Laude from Northeastern University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in Journalism, minoring in History. While at Northeastern, he worked for four years in the NU Sports Information Department as a Student Assistant through the school's Cooperative Education program. For the final three years of his college career, Cardinal served as the primary men's basketball and volleyball contact.
