Binghamton University’s Richemn Mourad (Men’s Player of the Year), Boston University’s Erin Katims (Women’s Player of the Year), Stony Brook’s Youssef Fassi-Fehri (Men’s Rookie of the Year), Binghamton’s Juliana Umeki (Women’s Rookie of the Year), Stony Brook’s Gary Glassman (Men’s Coach of the Year) and Binghamton’s Michael Stevens (Women’s Coach of the Year) highlighted the honorees at the conference’s annual tennis awards banquet on Thursday night. All voting was conducted by the head coaches at the America East institutions.

Mourad, a senior at Binghamton, led the Bearcats to a 15-6 record. In addition to his Player of the Year honor, Mourad was also selected to the all conference first team at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Mourad went 6-10 in single competition at the No. 1 spot this season.
Katims went 11-7 this season in singles play to set the pace for the Terriers. The junior also posted a 9-8 doubles record, playing predominatly at the No. 2 spot. As a team, Boston U. finished 13-6 this season.
Fassi-Fehri, a freshman for the Seawolves, went 11-4 this season, playing predominatly at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. At No. 4, Fassi-Fehri posted a 6-1 record.
Umeki took the lead for Binghamton in her rookie season, finishing with a 15-3 singles record. Umeki also went 10-2 at the No. 4 doubles spot.
Glassman, in his seventh season with Stony Brook, led the Seawolves to a 12-6 record and the No. 1 seed for this weekend’s America East Tennis Championship.
Stevens led the Bearcats to an impressive 9-4 finish, going undefeated in conference play. Stevens is in his third season at Binghamton and coached the Bearcats to a No. 2 seed entering this weekend’s championship. Stevens was honored as America East Coach of the Year in 2005 also.
All of the all-conference selections will be in action this weekend at the America East Tennis Championship, starting this Friday. All matches will be held at Yale’s Connecticut Tennis Center. The men’s championship beginsat 9 a.m. with No. 4 Boston U. against No. 5 New Hampshire. The women begin at 12 noon with opening round match-ups of No. 3 UMBC versus No. 6 New Hampshire, No. 4 Stony Brook versus No. 5 Albany and No. 2 Binghamton versus No. 7 Hartford. Both the men’s and women’s championship matches will take place on Sunday at 9 a.m.
