Stony Brook’s Youssef Fassi-Fehri (Fes, Morocco/Lycee Jean-Marc Boivin) and Sandy Wijeratne (Melbourne, Australia/Wesley College) are the Men’s and Women’s America East Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. The accolades were announced Tuesday (April 18).
Fassi-Fehri was a perfect 2-0 in the Seawolves 7-0 sweep of Siena and the Seawolves fourth win in-a-row. The freshman recorded his seventh win of the season at singles and improved to a perfect 4-0 when teamed up with teammate Dave Kortum. In doubles, Fassi-Fehri and Kortum breezed to an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. In singles, Fassi-Fehri rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
Wijeratne was a perfect 2-0 in the Seawolves 4-3 win over conference foe Albany. The sophomore continued her hot play in singles, winning her seventh match in her last nine tries with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. In doubles, Wijeratne paired up with Hana Chovanova, winning 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
