Stony Brook’s Tal Meir (Jerusalem, Israel/Denmark Comprehensive) is the America East Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Albany’s Lisa Klarmann (Oberstaufen, Germany/Rupert-Ness Gymnasium) is the Women’s Player of the Week. The accolades were announced Tuesday, March 28).
Meir was a perfect 2-0 in singles this week and 1-1 at doubles. With the dual match against Army all knotted up at three points apiece, Meir outlasted his opponent at number two singles, 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 to clinch the come from behind victory over Army, 4-3. The win over Army was the first in program history for the Stony Brook men’s team. In addition, Meir was victorious at doubles against Army, teaming up with Mike Crooks to win 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. The next day against Fairleigh Dickinson, Meir cruised at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Klarmann went 2-0 in singles matches this week, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles over Lauren Perry from Hartford. She then defeated New Hampshire’s Olivia Fleszar, 6-2, 7-6 also at No. 1. She helped the program to their first win over New Hampshire at the Division I level. She also finished 2-0 at No. 1 doubles with Courtney Michels. The duo posted two 8-1 decisions on the week. This season Klarmann is 10-1 overall, including 4-0 this spring. She and Michels are 10-1 in doubles action. The Great Danes, who have won four straight, have posted their best spring at the Division I level with a 7-1 record.
