New Haven, Conn.— The America East Conference will hold its Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships at the Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn. Friday (April 29) through Sunday (May 1). The Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships are team-match format with the men’s finals scheduled to be held on Sunday at 10 a.m., followed by the women’s at 12 noon. Both champions receive automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.
Boston University, which has won each of the 10 previous America East Women’s Tennis Championships, is again the top seed on the women’s side. Binghamton University is the second seed, followed by University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Stony Brook University is the No. 4 seed, while University of New Hampshire is seeded No. 5. No. 6 University at Albany and No. 7 University of Hartford round out the women’s field.
Two-time defending champion Binghamton is the top seed in the men’s field. Stony Brook is slated second on the men’s side, while UMBC is third. Hartford and Boston U. are seeded No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Hartford won championships in 2002, 1995, 1990 and 1989, while Boston U. won titles in 1996, 1994, 1993 and 1988. New Hampshire rounds out the field of six. First round matches begin Friday morning and Saturday is highlighted by semifinal matches.
