Binghamton’s Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y./Cardozo) and Zeynep Altinay (Antalya, Turkey/Ozel Abdulkadir) have been named the America East Men’s and Women’s Golf Performers of the Week. The Awards were announced Tuesday (April 26).
Dobrin, Binghamton’s No. 3 singles player, rolled a straight-set win over his opponent from Bucknell for his 11th consecutive singles victory and 16th win in his last 17 matches. He enters the America East Championship with a team-best 20-3 dual match record. Also playing No. 2 doubles, Dobrin scored a win over Bucknell, lifting his doubles mark to 18-7 overall. Binghamton, 19-5 overall, has set a school wins mark and tied a program record with 10 consecutive matches heading the America East Championship, where they will be looking for the program’s third consecutive conference crown.
Altinay helped won both her doubles and singles match as Binghamton pulled out a 4-3 win over a 15-5 Bucknell squad this past Tuesday. She and freshman Alyssa Freeman clinched the doubles point for Binghamton with their 8-6 come-form-behind win over Chelsea Mills and Tayna Sichko at No. 2. Altinay then scored a 6-4, 6-1 win at first singles over Nicole Curcic. In the Bearcats' regular-season finale against Albany last Wednesday, Altinay defeated Courtney Michels 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to improve her record to 28-4 for the season. It was also her 14th consecutive victory.
