Krejci, Altinay Pick Up Week 2 Accolades - AmericaEast.com


Jan Krejci (Prague, Czech Republic/BYU Hawaii) of Stony Brook and Zeynep Altinay (Antayla, Turkey/Ozel Abdulkadir) of Binghamton have been named the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (April 12).

Krejci went 3-1 in singles play this week and 4-0 at No. 1 doubles as the Seawolves earned victories over Siena and Stl. John’s. Playing at No. 1 singles, Krejci easily disposed of his opponents in his wins in straight sets, never dropping more than two games in a set. For the year, Krejci has posted a 23-3 singles record, 13-2 in dual match play, while teaming with Tal Meir (Jerusalem, Israel/Denmark Comprehensive School) to go 20-3 in doubles, 15-2 in dual match play as the No. 1 team for the Brook.

Zeynep won the decisive match at No. 1 singles in Binghamton's 4-3 win over Stony Brook on Friday. She beat Hana Chovanova 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-4 for her 11th consecutive victory as well as the team's fifth straight win. Altinay also won at first singles against Providence, improving her record to 26-4 on the season. In the process, she broke the school record of 25 wins in a season set by Lisa Denerstien during the 1991-92 campaign. Denerstein went 25-7 that year, also at No. 1 singles.
