A total of 608 student-athletes have been named to the 2004 America East Fall Academic Honor Roll for earning grade point averages of 3.0 or higher it was announced today by Chris Monasch, Commissioner of America East Conference. Of that total, 268 student-athletes were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, acknowledging grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher during the most recent athletic season.
The student-athletes were members of teams in the six championship sports which America East offered in the fall season including men’s cross country, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball.
Member institutions of America East Conference for the 2004 fall season included University at Albany, Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Hartford, University of Maine, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, Stony Brook University and University of Vermont.
New Hampshire had the most representatives named to the Academic Honor Roll as 90 Wildcat student-athletes were selected. Maine (69), Vermont (69), Northeastern (63) and Boston University rounded out the top five. UMBC had 58 recipients followed by Hartford (57), Albany (52), Binghamton (48) and Stony Brook (42).
Hartford had the highest percentage of student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll as 57 of its 82 fall student-athletes (69.5 percent) received that distinction. Vermont (64.5 percent, 69 of 107), New Hampshire (62.5 percent, 90 of 144) and Maine (62.2 percent, 69 of 111) followed.
New Hampshire had 49 student-athletes named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll to lead all institutions. Maine (42), Hartford (29), Vermont (27) and Northeastern (26) were others well-represented by student-athletes with grade-point averages at 3.5 or better.
Institutional sport leaders were: men’s cross country, New Hampshire (16); women’s cross country, New Hampshire (30); field hockey, Northeastern (18); men’s soccer, Hartford (18); women’s soccer, Hartford (19); and volleyball, UMBC (11).
