The first America East Women’s Golf Championship and the 16th annual America East Men’s Golf Championship will be held Monday and Tuesday at the Anderson’s Glen Course at Blackledge Country Club. The stroke-play championship is a 36-hole event, with rounds of 18 holes each day. It is the third time Blackledge has hosted the America East Championship and the first since 1996, when the course was the host in successive years for the tournament.
Binghamton University won its first men’s championship last season with a score of 581 at the En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, N.Y. University of Hartford, which has won a conference-best nine championships, was second.
Senior Joe Kunz of Binghamton, who won medalist honors with a 143 last season, leads the Bearcats again this season. Kunz’s score tied for the best 36-round total in America East Championship history. He is joined by senior Keith Hendrickson and sophomore Kevin Crawford, who shot 150 and 152, respectively, in the championship last season.
The men will compete on the 6,787-yard, par-72 couse, while the women will play the 6,137-yard, par-72 course. Binghamton, Boston University, Hartford and University of Vermont will compete for the men’s title. University at Albany, Boston University and Hartford will vie for the first women’s championship.
