The Binghamton University men's golf team, fresh off their America East Championship, received an At-Large bid to the NCAA Golf Championships, and will compete in the East Regional, held at Auburn University Club in Auburn, Alabama, May 15-17.
This is the first Division I NCAA Golf Championship appearance for the Bearcats, and the first for America East since 2001, when University of Hartford finished in a tie for 23rd at the NCAA East Regional at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Binghamton enters the 56-hole championship as the No. 25 seed, just behind local rivals Rhode Island (No. 23) and Yale (No. 24). The Bearcats are led by senior Adam Fuchs, the runner-up at this year's America East Championship after finishing as the medalist in 2002. Junior Joe Kunz tied an America East Championship record by posting a 36-hole score of 143 en route to medalist honors in leading Binghamton to its first America East Golf Championship. Fellow junior Keith Hendrickson, and freshmen Brad Moulton and Kevin Crawford, round out the top-five for a squad that won more tournaments this year than any other Division I program. The Bearcats, guided by America East Coach of the Year John Affleck, won seven tournaments during the Fall and Spring seasons, including the ECAC Championship and the Rhode Island Invitational.
The top-10 teams and two individuals advance from each regional to the championships finals, conducted May 27-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
