Led by Kenneth J. Pope medalist Joe Kunz’s championship record tying two day score of 143, Binghamton University captured its first America East Golf Championship today at the par-72, 7,034 yard En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, N.Y. The Bearcats’ had a two day team total of 581, 18 strokes better than runner-up University of Hartford (599). Boston University (660) was third, followed by University of Vermont (664).

Binghamton took the top three spots en route to its first ever Gordon McCullough trophy signifying the America East Champion, with Adam Fuchs (72-73-145) and Brad Moulton (73-74-147) following Kunz’s record tying performance. Keith Hendrickson (73-77-150) placed seventh for the Bearcats to round out their scoring team. The America East Championship is stroke play with the top four of a team’s five golfers counting toward the score in each round.
Hartford’s Dean Carrigan (78-70-148), who tied Kunz for the day’s low round of 70, and Boston University’s Rob Klare (75-73) tied for fourth with two day totals of 148. The rounds of 70 (two-under-par) posted by Kunz and Carrigan equal the first round score of Hartford Miroslav Holub as the championships low round, and are the third lowest numbers put up in America East Golf history
Kunz, Fuchs, Moulton, Klare, and Carrigan were all named all-conference. Binghamton head coach John Affleck is the Coach of the Year.
