America East Conference will hold its Men's and Women's Tennis Championships at the Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn. Friday (April 25) through Sunday (April 27)
The Men's and Women's Tennis Championships are team-match format with the finals scheduled to be held on Sunday at 12 noon. Both champions receive automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.
Boston University, which has won each of the 12 previous America East Women's Tennis Championships in which it participated, is again the top seed on the women's side. Binghamton University is the second seed, followed by University of New Hampshire. Stony Brook University is the No. 4 seed, while University of Vermont, the only school other than Boston University to win the championship, is seeded No. 5. The Catamounts won the 1993 America East Championship. No. 6 University of Hartford and No. 7 University at Albany round out the women's field.
Binghamton is the top seed in the men's field, after advancing to the semifinal round last season in its first America East Championship. Stony Brook, runners-up at last spring's championship, is the No. 2 seed. Vermont, the 1992 champion, is the No. 3 seed, followed by defending America East champion Hartford at the No. 4 seed. Hartford also won championships in 1995, 1990, and 1989. Boston University, a four-time conference champion, is the No. 5 seed, followed No. 6 seeded New Hampshire.
First round matches begin Friday. Semifinal and consolation matches will be held Saturday. The men's and women's championship and women's consolation are Sunday.
