Hartford Leads Golf Championship After Day 1 - AmericaEast.com

BOYLSTON, Mass.--Junior Greg Folsom shot a one-under par 71 to lead defending champion University of Hartford to an 18-shot lead over Binghamton University after the first round of the two-round America East Golf Championship on a cold, windy, rainy day at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club. With temperatures hovering around 40 degrees and a steady rain falling all day, Folsom was the only player to break par at the 6,498-yard, par-72 course and became just the seventh player in the 14-year history of the conference championship to play a round in the red numbers.

The Hawks had four of the top five individual golfers en route to a team score of 293. Folsom was followed by teammates Jeff Campbell (73), Chris Holmes (74) and Miroslav Holub (75).

Junior Adam Fuchs tied for third with a two-over 74 to lead America East newcomer Binghamton to a 311. Keith Hendrickson (78), Adam Singer (79) and Jonathan Bump (80) were others to score for the Bearcats.

John Skrinar and Takumi Okubo each carded a seven-over 79 to pace Boston University's 321, 28 shots off the lead. Thomas Child had a 78 for the University of Vermont, which shot a 329.

The America East Championship is stroke play with the top four of a team's five golfers counting toward the score in each round.

The America East Golf Championship concludes with 18 holes Tuesday at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club.
