America East Conference has announced the seeds for its Men's and Women's Tennis Championships at the Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn. Friday (April 26) through Sunday (April 28).
The Men's and Women's Tennis Championships are team-match format with the champions receiving automatic bids to the NCAA Tennis Championships.
Boston University, which has won each of the 11 previous America East Women's Tennis Championships in which it has participated, is again the top seed on the women's side. Stony Brook University is seeded second followed by Binghamton University. University of New Hampshire is the No. 4 seed, University of Vermont, the only school other than Boston University to win a championship, is seeded No. 5. The Catamounts won the 1993 America East Championship. No. 6 University of Hartford and No. 7 University at Albany round out the women's field.
Hartford, the America East Men's Tennis Champion in 1995, 1990 and 1989, is the top seed in that championship after finishing as the conference runner-up last season to Hofstra University, which won each of the last three America East Championships. Hofstra, 1998 champion Towson University and 1997 champion University of Delaware joined the Colonial Athletic Association prior to the beginning of this season. Stony Brook is the No. 2 seed. Binghamton is the No. 3 seed followed by No. 4 Boston University, a four-time conference champion, and No. 5 Vermont, the 1992 champion. New Hampshire is the No. 6 seed.
First-round matches begin Friday. Semifinal and consolation matches will be held Saturday. The men's and women's championship and women's consolation are Sunday.
