A total of 630 student-athletes have been named to the 2001 America East Fall Academic Honor Roll for earning grade point averages of 3.0 or higher it was announced today by Chris Monasch, Commissioner of America East Conference. A total of 273 student-athletes were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, acknowledging grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher during the most recent athletic season.
The student-athletes were members of teams in the six championship sports which America East offered in the fall season including men's cross country, women's cross country, field hockey, men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball.
Member institutions of America East Conference for the 2001 fall season included University at Albany, Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Delaware, Drexel University, University of Hartford, Hofstra University, University of Maine, University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, Stony Brook University, Towson University, and University of Vermont.
New Hampshire had the most representatives named to the Academic Honor Roll as 74 Wildcat student-athletes were selected. Binghamton (63), Maine (60), Northeastern (51) and Vermont (51) were others with more than 50 recipients.
Hartford had the highest percentage of student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll as 45 of its 74 fall student-athletes (60.8 percent) received that distinction. Binghamton followed with 59.4 percent (63 of 106).
New Hampshire had 38 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll to lead all institutions. Binghamton (37), Vermont (27), Maine (25) and Hartford (24) were others well-represented by student-athletes with grade-point averages at 3.5 or better.
Institutional sport leaders were: men's cross country, Binghamton (11); women's cross country, New Hampshire (23); field hockey, Towson (16); men's soccer, Delaware (15), Drexel (15); women's soccer, Binghamton (17), Hartford (17); and volleyball, Towson (11).
