Women’s #AEHoops Week 17: Vermont Takes First as Regular Season Concludes

BOSTON – Vermont secured its first outright regular season title since 2002 on Thursday and Maine used a pair of victories to earn the No. 2 seed, while UMBC and New Hampshire also won twice last week.
 
The Catamounts seek to repeat as Champions, while 2024 champion Maine won three straight to conclude the regular season. Binghamton earned the No. 3 seed in the Air Force Reserve #AEPlayoffs, with UMBC securing the No. 4 seed.

Need to Know
  • Vermont concluded the regular season with a 68-37 win over UMass Lowell to finish league play with a 13-3 record and earn the regular season title.
  • Maine went 2-0 last week, beating UAlbany 60-59 on a last-second shot by Adrianna Smith and then followed it up with a 74-67 win over Binghamton to secure the No. 2 seed.
  • UMBC took down Bryant 65-59 in double overtime to secure the No. 4 seed and then finished the regular season with a 66-43 win over UMass Lowell
  • New Hampshire went 2-0 last week, taking down Binghamton 67-48 and then edging UAlbany 45-42 on Saturday to jump to the No. 7 seed in the playoffs.
  • NJIT won its lone game last week, blitzing Bryant 75-42 to secure the No. 5 seed.

Looking Ahead:
  • Quarterfinal action gets underway on Thursday with three games beginning at 6 pm.
  • No. 1 Vermont hosts No. 8 UAlbany at 6 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s championship game.
  • No. 2 Maine welcomes No. 7 New Hampshire at 6 p.m. and No. 6 Bryant travels to No. 3 Binghamton for a 6 p.m. contest.
  • No. 4 UMBC hosts No. 5 NJIT at 6:30 p.m.

Player of the Week
Adrianna Smith, Maine – Sr., Forward, Reston, Va.
  • Averaged 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game in two wins.
  • Had 20 points, 12 assists, eight rebound and three steals, as well as a game-winning basket in the final seconds against UAlbany.
  • Only player in the nation averaging 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds & 4.0 assists per game.
  • This is Smith’s seventh #AEHoops Player of the Week honor this season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Lala Woods, Maine – Fr., Guard, Wheeling, W. Va
  • Averaged 14.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in two wins.
  • Scored a career-best 18 points with four triples in a win over Binghamton.
  • This is Woods’ first #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
