#AEMLAX Week 6: UAlbany, Binghamton & Vermont Win Conference Openers

BOSTON – UAlbany, Binghamton and Vermont all had impressive performances to begin league play 1-0 on Saturday and move into a tie atop the #AEMLAX standings.
 
Need to Know:
  • Binghamton took down UMass Lowell 16-9 in its first league game, thanks to seven goals from Andrew Girolamo.
  • UAlbany dropped a non-conference 16-8 decision to No. 15 Georgetown before rebounding with a 13-7 victory over Bryant on Saturday. Silas Richmond led the offense with four goals and three assists.
  • Vermont held UMBC scoreless for almost the entire second half on the way to a 10-5 home win, while NJIT fell to Jacksonville in non-conference action.
  • UMass Lowell leads the nation in face-off percentage at 66.5%, led by Justin Alexander who ranks third at 67.6%. Alexander is also second nationally in ground balls per game at 9.3.
  • Silas Richmond ranks 5th in the nation in points per game (5.3) and seventh in assists per game (2.57)
  • Binghamton’s Connor Winters leads the nation in saves per game (14.71) while also ranking 3rd in save percentage (60.6). He’s the only player nationally in the top-five of both categories.

  • This week UMBC hosts UAlbany, looking for its first conference win, while Bryant welcomes Vermont, seeking to upend the Catamounts.
  • Binghamton travels to NJIT in the final game of the day, at 7:30 p.m.

#AEMLAX Weekly Award Winners – Mar. 16
Offensive Player of the Week

Andrew Girolamo, Binghamton – Jr., Attack, Mahopac, N.Y.
  • Scored a career-best seven goals in a 16-9 win over UMass Lowell.
  • Added two ground balls and two caused turnovers in the conference win.
  • This is Girolamo’s first #AEMLAX Player of the Week honor this season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Jack Combs, Vermont – Jr., LSM, Indialantic, Fla.
  • Totaled five ground balls and three caused turnovers in a 10-5 win over UMBC.
  • Helped hold UMBC to its lowest scoring output in two years and scoreless for 35 straight minutes in the contest.
  • This is Combs’ first #AEMLAX Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Ryan Daly, Vermont – Jr., Goalkeeper, Norwell, Mass.
  • Finished with 11 saves and just five goals allowed against UMBC.
  • Faced a total of 43 shots and also picked up a ground ball as UMBC was held scoreless for 35 straight minutes.
  • This is Daly’s second #AEMLAX Goalkeeper of the Week honor.
 
Face-Off Specialist of the Week
Alex Steers, UMBC – Sr., Face-Off, Westminster, Md.
  • Won 10-of-16 face-offs with seven ground balls in a loss to Vermont.
  • This is Steers’ first #AEMLAX Faceoff Specialist honor this season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Zack Toll, Vermont – Fr., Attack, Oshawa, Ontario
  • Had three goals and one assist to lead Vermont over UMBC in conference play.
  • Chipped in one caused turnover.
  • This is Toll’s third #AEMLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
