#AETF Week 8: Last Weekend of Competition Featured Broken School Records

BOSTON – The final weekend of competition before the #AETF Indoor Championships ended with multiple personal-bests.

New Hampshire and UMass Lowell faced off Wednesday in a duel meet that resulted in Yoofi Abaka-Amuah breaking his own school record in the shot put. His winning shot-put throw was 63’ 9.75” while his first-place weight throw was 66’ 3.75”. UAlbany also found success as Tooni Ogunyeye had his season-best 60-meter dash of 6.72. Adaliz Hunt broke the program record with a 60-meter dash time of 7.35 to take home first place.

The America East Indoor Track and Field Championship will take place February 20-21

2025 #AETF Weekly Award Winners – Feb. 17
Male Field Athlete of the Week

Yoofi Abaka-Amuah, New Hampshire – Sr., Worcester, Mass.
  • Took home first place in the men's weight throw with a 66' 3.75" attempt before logging a meet-winning 63' 9.75" toss in the men's shot put.
  • His shot-put throw moved him to 11th across the NCAA this season.
  • This is Abaka-Amuah’s second #AETF Field Athlete of the Week honor this year.

Male Track Athlete of the Week
Tooni Ogunyeye, UAlbany – So., Brampton, Canada
  • Had a season best time of 6.72 in the 60-meter dash at the Crimson Open.
  • His time is currently first in the conference and third in the Northeast.
  • This is Ogunyeye’s first indoor #AETF Track Athlete of the Week honor.
 
Male Rookie Athlete of the Week
Ojigwe Olua, UMBC – Fr., Catonsville, Md.
  • Finished the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.94.
  • His sprint is the fastest in the conference.
  • This is Olua’s third indoor #AETF Rookie of the Week honor.

Female Field Athlete of the Week
Marie Abongwa, UMBC – Sr., Bowie, Md.
  • Finished seventh in the shot put (14.11 meters) and ninth in the weight throw (17.21 meters).
  • Abongwa is in the top five of the conference for both events.
  • This is Abongwa’s second #AETF weekly honor of the year.

Female Track Athlete of the Week
Adaliz Hunt, UAlbany – Gr., Centereach, N.Y.
  • Broke the school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.35.
  • Her time is first in the conference and in the Northeast.
  • This is Hunt’s second #AETF weekly honor of the year.
 
Female Rookie Athlete of the Week

Enazajah Young, UMBC – Fr., New Market, Md.
  • Finished second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.40 seconds.
  • Set a personal record in the 60-meter with a time of 7.54.
  • This is Young’s fifth #AETF Track Athlete of the Week honor of the year.
