#AETF Week 7: Final Tune Up Before the #AETF Indoor Championship

BOSTON – With the last weekend of the Indoor season coming up, multiple athletes were able to put together their best performances of the season.

Maine found success at the IC4A, with multiple top five finishes. Kaleb Colson secured first place in the 800 meter with a time of 1:51.04, Ryker Brown also took home first place with a 16.76 meter shot put throw. For the women, Maine’s Ruby Krasnow secured a first place finish in the 5,000 meter with a time of 16:40.09.

Multiple schools competed at the River Hawk Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell. Yoofi Abaka-Amuah took down New Hampshire’s men’s shot-put record with a 18.87 meter throw. His previous 20.93 meter throw remains the best in the conference. For the women, the weekend highlight was Alex Beal of Vermont who won the 3,000 meter at the IC4A with a time of 9:33.04 and secured the top time in the conference.
In the final weekend of competition, seven teams hit the road for competition starting on Friday.

Male Field Athlete of the Week
Yoofi Abaka-Amuah, New Hampshire – Sr., Worcester, Mass.
  • Secured second place in the men’s shot put while also breaking New Hampshire’s school record with a 18.87-meter throw.
  • His throw is ranked top in the conference and top 25 in the nation.
  • This is Abaka-Amuah’s first #AETF Field Athlete of the Week honor this year.

Male Track Athlete of the Week
Jacob Smith, UAlbany – Gr., England
  • Took home first place at the Scarlet Knights Open in the mile.
  • Smith’s time set a program record with a time of 4:00.08 and is currently ranked 9th in the Northeast and first in the conference.
  • This is Smith’s second indoor #AETF Track Athlete of the Week honor.
 
Male Rookie Athlete of the Week
Leonard Durau, UAlbany – Fr., Constanta, Romania
  • Finished fourth in the triple jump with a 15.38-meter jump.
  • His jump becomes the seventh in program history at UAlbany, first in the conference, and fourth in the Northeast.
  • This is Durau’s first indoor #AETF Rookie of the Week honor.

Female Field Athlete of the Week
Zaidah Lightener, NJIT – So., Springfield, NE.
  • Earned a silver medal in the triple jump with a personal-best of 12.01 meter at the ECAC Indoor Championships.
  • Finished second in the long jump at 5.85 meters. Currently leads the conference in both long jump and triple jump.
  • This is Lightener’s first #AETF weekly honor of the year.

Female Track Athlete of the Week
Alex Beal, Vermont – Sr., Okemos, MI
  • Beal won the 3000 meter at the IC4A and ECAC Championships in Boston on Saturday with a personal best time of 9:33.04.
  • She now holds the second fastest time in Catamount history in the 3000 meter and is first in the conference.
  • This is Beal’s first #AETF weekly honor of the year.
 
Female Rookie Athlete of the Week
Jessie Fotheringham, NJIT – Fr., Tamworth, NSW, Australia
  • Broke the school record and earned a bronze medal in the 3,000 meter with a personal-best time of 9:36.92 at the ECAC Indoor Championships.
  • Her time ranks second in the conference.
  • This is Fotheringham’s second #AETF Track Athlete of the Week honor of the year.
