#AEMSOC Week 2: UMBC Earns Three Victories

BOSTON – Three America East programs are still unbeaten after two weeks of action, highlighted by UMBC which is one of three teams in the nation at 4-0. No. 1 Vermont and Bryant are both unbeaten as well.
 
The Retrievers went 3-0 last week, taking down Saint Peter’s, Niagara and Howard while surrendering just a single goal. Bryant and Binghamton both won twice, while UMass Lowell and the Catamounts went unbeaten last week. NJIT earned a draw in its lone contest.
 
Need to Know:
  • UMBC is now 4-0 after three wins last week. Brady Geho had a team-best seven points on three goals and one assist while Emigdio Lopez allowed just one goal in three games with 12 saves.
  • Bryant improved to 2-0-1 by beating URI 2-1 and the Lafayette by a 1-0 margin at home.
  • Binghamton went 2-0 last week, highlighted by a 1-0 home victory over CAA preseason favorite Hofstra. Daniel Shannon earned the shutout win with six saves.
  • The top ranked Catamounts secured a pair of draws last week, tying American 1-1 and then getting a goal in the final five minutes to secure a 1-1 draw at Georgetown.
  • UAlbany took down Central Conn. State 1-0 and NJIT earned an impressive 0-0 draw with UConn in other action.
 
This week features 10 non-conference contests. Bryant is at Dartmouth and UMass in a tough week, while UMBC travels to William & Mary. Vermont is back home against Lehigh on Saturday, while UMass Lowell plays at Holy Cross. Binghamton is on the road for a pair, while and UAlbany are home. New Hampshire looks for its first win of the season at UC Irvine on Friday.

Brady Geho, UMBC – Jr., Forward, Westminster, Md.
  • Named MVP of the UMBC/Navy Invitational after registering seven points in a pair of wins.
  • Helped team to 3-0 mark overall on the week, including two goals and one assist Niagara.
  • This is Geho’s first #AEMSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player & Rookie of the Week
Alvaro Medrano, UMass Lowell – Fr., Goalkeeper, Guatemala City, Guatemala
  • Recorded a pair of shutouts with 11 saves in a 1-0-1 week.
  • Posted a nine-save shutout at Houston Christian in a 1-0 victory to start the week.
  • This is Medrano’s first #AEMSOC Defensive Player or Rookie of the Week honor.

The America East is one of the best men’s soccer conferences in the country and home to the defending national champions from Vermont. In 2024, the Catamounts led the nation in RPI and the America East finish fifth as a conference. It marked the league’s second straight top-six finish in RPI. Overall The conference has received multiple bids to the NCAA tournament in four of the past nine seasons. Four different teams have reached the third round of the NCAA tournament since 2014.
