#AEMSOC Week 4: No. 13 Vermont & No. 17 Bryant Stay Unbeaten

BOSTON – Defending National Champion Vermont earned a 1-0 victory over No. 3 Akron to stay unbeaten last week, while No. 17 Bryant took down Providence 2-1 to win its fifth straight contest
 
The No. 13 Catamounts opened the week with a 3-3 draw against Dartmouth, fighting back from a 3-1 deficit and then capped off the week with a 1-0 victory over No. 3 Akron at home to improve to 4-0-3. The 17th ranked Bulldogs extended their win streak to five, the third longest in the nation, with a 2-1 victory against Providence after falling behind 1-0.
 
Need to Know:
  • Vermont’s win over Akron marked their highest ranked victory over a team at home. The Catamounts are back in action this week, hosting Hofstra and then playing at Fairfield on Saturday.
  • UMBC fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, dropping a 1-0 decision at home to Old Dominion. The team travels to Navy and then hosts George Mason this week.
  • Bryant seeks to extend its win streak when it hosts Saint Joseph’s and then travels to Stonehill this Saturday.
  • New Hampshire played to a 0-0 draw with UMass, as the Wildcats improved to 0-3-3 with the tie. They look to get their first win at Harvard on Tuesday or home against Dartmouth on Saturday.
  • NJIT earned a 0-0 draw against Saint Peter’s on Saturday and takes to the road against CCSU and Cornell this week.
  • Binghamton, UAlbany, UMass Lowell all lost this past week but look to rebound on Tuesday or Friday.
 
This week features 15 non-conference contests, as every school but Binghamton plays both Tuesday and Saturday this coming week.
 
2025 #AEMSOC Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 15
Offensive Player of the Week
David Ismail, Vermont – Sr., Forward, Bayreuth, Germany
  • Scored the game-winning goal as UVM beat No. 3 Akron 1-0 in his only appearance of the week.
  • Scored on a one touch goal in the 48th minute and finished with three shots.
  • This is Ismail’s first #AEMSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Scott Williams, New Hampshire – Sr., Goalkeeper, Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Stopped eight shots in a 0-0 draw with UMass, which was ranked No. 20 a week ago.
  • This is Williams’ first #AEMSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Philipp Kühn, Vermont – So, Forward, Berlin, Germany
  • Scored second goal in a 3-3 draw with Dartmouth, cutting the UVM deficit to 3-2 in the 76th minute.
  • Added a pair of shots in a 1-0 victory over No. 3 Akron.
  • This is Kühn’s first #AEMSOC Rookie of the Week honor this season.

The America East is one of the best men’s soccer conferences in the country and home to the defending national champions from Vermont. In 2024, the Catamounts led the nation in RPI and the America East finish fifth as a conference. It marked the league’s second straight top-six finish in RPI. Overall The conference has received multiple bids to the NCAA tournament in four of the past nine seasons. Four different teams have reached the third round of the NCAA tournament since 2014.
