#AEWSOC Week 5: Conference Play Kicks Off Sunday

BOSTON – The final full weekend of non-conference play took place for the league’s women’s soccer teams last weekend and four squads went unbeaten. Overall, America East teams have posted a .500 win percentage in non-league contests to this point with just three more scheduled for this season.

Conference play is set to kick off on Sunday, September 21 with a full slate of four games. All nine teams will play eight league games, facing every other conference opponent once with teams receiving three points for a win, one for a tie and zero for a loss. The top six teams in the standings at the end of the regular season will qualify for the 2025 America East Women’s Soccer Championship.

  • Binghamton played Cornell to a scoreless draw on Sunday behind a seven-save shutout performance from goalkeeper Rebecca Kessler, who earned America East Defensive Player of the Week honors.
  • The Bearcats debuted at No. 71 in the NCAA RPI rankings, the highest in the conference.
  • Binghamton wrapped up the non-conference portion of its slate with a record of 5-1-2, its best start since 2017.
  • NJIT extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a win over Lafayette and tie vs. North Texas and improved to 5-2-2.
  • UMass Lowell won both of its games last week by a combined 8-1 score, downing Stonehill, 3-0, on Thursday and New Haven, 5-1, on Sunday.
  • Bryant shut out its two opponents last week, beating Sacred Heart, 2-0, on Wednesday and drawing Boston University on Sunday.
  • The #AEWSOC preseason poll and All-Conference teams were announced on July 29. Binghamton and New Hampshire were tabbed the co-favorites - link.
 
Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 15

Offensive Player of the Week
Kelsey Ramos, NJIT – Sr., Forward, Fort Wayne, N.J.
  • Scored both of NJIT’s goals last week to lead her team to a 1-0-1 week.
  • Had the game-winning score in the sixth minute of the Highlander’s 1-0 win over Lafayette on Thursday.
  • Scored in the 16th minute vs. North Texas, which resulted in a 1-1 tie.
  • This is Ramos’ first career #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Rebecca Kessler, Binghamton – Jr., Goalkeeper, Scotch Plains, N.J.
  • Stopped all seven shots she faced in a scoreless draw vs. Cornell on Sunday.
  • The shutout is the third of her career.
  • This is Kessler’s first #AEWSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Nora Belin, UMass Lowell – Fr., Forward, Stockholm, Sweden
  • Scored three goals across two wins for UMass Lowell last week.
  • Found the back of the net twice in the River Hawks’ 5-1 win over New Haven on Sunday after scoring once in a 3-0 win over Stonehill on Thursday.
  • This is Belin’s first career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor.
