MYSTIC, Conn. – Maine’s Abby Kraemer has been recognized as the America East Woman of the Year as announced by the conference at its annual awards banquet on Tuesday evening.
Kraemer propelled Maine women’s soccer to new heights during her career. She is the first Black Bear to be named Woman of the Year since Holly Stewart in 2015, and just the second overall. This award recognizes the conference's senior female student-athlete who has best distinguished herself throughout her collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership.
The two-time All-American helped Maine women’s soccer win their first-two #AEWSOC Championships in 2023 and 2024. The 2023 #AEWSOC Striker of the Year led the league in points (30) and goals (13) while pushing the Black Bears to the first title. Following the season she became the first #AEWSOC player since 2005 to earn second-team All-America recognition.
Kraemer was a third-team All-American in 2024 as Maine won its first-ever regular season title and another tournament championship. She finished her career as the first #AEWSOC two-time All-American in 25 years, to go with 31 career goals and 12 assists for 74 points.
Kraemer graduated with a 3.90 GPA as a biochemistry major and served as a Virus-Host Cell Interaction Discovery Lab Teaching Assistant as an undergraduate.
Off the field, Kraemer also took part in the Mighty Mite soccer clinics with her teammates six times per year and volunteered with the Christine B. Foundation. She served as an Old Town School District lunch time activity leader and a hospitality aide at the Eastern Maine Medical Center .
The nine nominees for the 2025 America East Woman of the Year award were announced on May 19. Three finalists, which included Kraemer, Anna Olson (UVM) and Alison Smisdom (UAlbany) were announced on Tuesday, May 27.
