UAlbany Knocks Off Siena in NCAA Men's Lacrosse Opening Round

ALBANY - N.Y. - America East Offensive Player of the Year Silas Richmond tallied five points to lead UAlbany to an 11-9 win over crosstown-rival Siena in the opening round of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday in front of a raucous crowd of 3,527 fans at Casey Stadium.

With the win, the Great Danes advance to take on top-seeded Cornell on Sunday in Ithaca. Face off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will air on ESPNU and ESPN+.

The victory was the 10th NCAA men's lacrosse tournament win for an America East team since 2014.

The Great Danes, who won their second-straight America East title last weekend at Bryant, scored the first three goals of the game and grew their advantage to 6-2 after one quarter. UAlbany never led the Saints get within two en route to the win.

Richmond paced the UAlbany offense with two goals and three assists while Ryan Doherty had three goals. Brady Smith stopped 11 of the 20 shots he faced between the pipes.
