Baseball 5/12/2025 11:00:00 AM #AEBASE Week 13: Bryant Clinches Regular Season Championship BOSTON – Bryant took two of three from NJIT this weekend to clinch their second straight outright regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming #AEBASE Championship. Only three teams have clinched a playoff spot, with four teams fighting for the final three spots in the last weekend. The Bulldogs beat NJIT 10-9 in the opener and 9-4 in the final to earn the outright regular season title. The Highlanders did capture a 7-6 win in game two to move into a tie (11-10) for third going into the final week. The hottest team right now is UAlbany, which has won six straight to move out of the basement and to 9-12 this season. The Great Danes earned a pair of walk-offs against UMBC, 5-4 and 2-1 on Saturday, before concluding with a 4-2 win on Sunday. Binghamton captured 2 of 3 from Maine to move into a tie for third (11-10), capped off by a 6-2 victory in the final game. Maine finishes its regular season at 13-11 and will be seeded No. 2 – 4 in the upcoming tournament. This weekend UMBC hosts Bryant, looking to keep its playoff hopes alive as the Retrievers are tied for 6th at 8-13. UMass Lowell is also 8-13 and travels to NJIT. Binghamton plays host to UAlbany in the final series, with both teams looking to avoid elimination. Hit .636 with a .667 on-base percentage with three runs and two RBI, including an RBI walk-off single and scoring the winning run in another walk-off victory. In a 2-1 win over UMBC went 3-for-3, doubling home UAlbany’s first run in the 6th and then singling and scoring from first to secure the walk-off victory in the ninth. This is Filippi’s first #AEBASE Player of the Week honors this season. Pitcher of the Week Matthew Mariano, UAlbany – Jr., Pitcher, Clifton Park, N.Y. Appeared in two games, earning a win and a save with 5.0 innings of scoreless relief with two hits allowed and two strikeouts. Went 3.0 innings and gave up just two hits with one strikeout in a 4-2 win over UMBC. This is Mariano’s first #AEBASE Pitcher of the Week honor. Rookie of the Week Aidan Gelbsman, UAlbany – Fr., Pitcher, Prospect, Conn. Tossed 6.0 shutout innings against UMBC, allowing just two hits and striking out nine with one walk. Earned the no decision as he left with a 1-0 lead and UMBC tied it before UAlbany walked off the game in the ninth.
