New Hampshire Leads 2024-25 Commissioner’s Cup Standings after Winter Season

BOSTON – For the first time since 2019-20, New Hampshire leads all America East schools in the 2024-25  Stuart P. Haskell, Jr., Commissioner's Cup standings, which were released on Thursday afternoon.
 
Following the completion of the winter season, the Wildcats have 233 total points which is its highest total they’ve had at this point since they had 234 points back in 2019-20. They were led by women’s swimming & diving, which won its fifth title in the last six seasons.
 
Vermont is in second place with 116 points after finishing the fall third with 105 points, following by Bryant in third with 208 points and UAlbany in fourth with 206 points.
 
The Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic program in America East as determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success both during the regular season and championship competition in the conference's 18 sports.

Need to Know
  • Two-thirds of the way through the season, seven of the America East’s nine schools have won a league championship or a regular-season title.
  • This marks the first time since 2019-20 that New Hampshire leads the standings after the conclusion of the winter season, with 233 points for the Wildcats.
  • Through the winter season, UNH and UVM each have won three conference titles, while Bryant has a league-high three runner-up finishes.
  • Vermont is second with 216 points, marking the fourth consecutive season the Catamounts have finished the winter season in the top three. Last year UVM was first with 218 points.
  • Bryant earned the most points of any school during the winter season with 127 to place third overall with 208 points. The Bulldogs won their first-ever men’s basketball championship and earned runner-up finishes in women’s indoor track & field as well as women’s swimming & diving.
  • UAlbany had the second-most points during the winter with 121 points to place fourth overall with 206 total points, 36 more points than they Great Danes had last year at this time. They swept the men’s and women’s indoor track & field championship, while women’s basketball won a regular season title.
  • Maine sits in fifth with 198 points after men’s basketball earned a runner-up finish this winter while women’s basketball reached the conference semifinals once again.
  • Two-time defending Commissioner’s Cup Champion Binghamton is sixth with 193 points, led by men’s swimming & diving capturing its second-straight league crown.
 
The scoring system for the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup is as follows: In sports where regular-season round robin competition is conducted, the first-place institution in the final standings receives four points times the total number of teams involved in conference play. The second-place institution receives four less points; third place receives eight less points, and so on. Additionally, the America East (tournament) champion receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place receives four less points and so on down to the last-place institution which receives two points. 

In sports where regular-season round robin competition is not conducted (cross country, track & field, swimming & diving), the first-place institution at the America East championship receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place gets four less points and so on down to the last place team which receives two points.
