#AETF Week 2: America East Athletes Produce Big Marks

Boston - Eight programs returned to the competition surface for a great week of meets, as four athletes from four different programs broke into the top 25 in the NCAA.

UMass Lowell, Maine, NJIT, and Binghamton headed to North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays multi-day meet. UMass Lowell’s James Kotowski threw the javelin 73.28 meters, the fifth-best mark in the country, while Brian Luciano tossed the hammer 65.06 meters, good for 21st in the nation. UMBC was the lone America East team at the Towson Invite, where Iosif Papa recorded the eighth-best throw in the country in the discus (59.12m).

At Bryant’s Black and Gold Invite, New Hampshire’s Ruth White was the first collegian across the line in the 10,000m, running 33:27.57, the 17th-fastest time in the country.

All nine teams are back in action this week, with a little over a month to go until the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet.

Female Field Athlete of the Week

Shelby Anderson, Bryant – So., Rollinsford, N.H.
- Anderson reset her school record in the javelin with a throw of 42.79m.
- The sophomore’s mark claimed first place at Bryant’s Black and Gold Invite and currently ranks fourth in the Northeast region.
- This is Anderson's first #AETF Field Athlete of the Weekf honor this season.

Female Track Athlete and Rookie of the Week
Ruth White, New Hampshire – Fr., Orono, Maine
- White shattered the New Hampshire 10,000m record, running 33:27.57 at Bryant’s Black and Gold Invite.
- The first-year was the top collegiate runner in the race, and her time currently ranks 17th in the nation.
- This is White's first #AETF Track Athlete of the week and first Rookie of the week honor this season.

Male Field Athlete of the Week
James Kotowski, UMass Lowell – Gr., Stoneham, Mass.
- Kotowski placed first in the javelin at the Raleigh Relays with a throw of 73.28m.
- The graduate student’s mark currently ranks fifth in the nation.
- This is Kotowski's first #AETF Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.

Male Track Athlete of the Week
Alpha Balde, UMBC – So., Baltimore, Md.
- Balde finished first in both the 200m (21.15) and 400m (47.86) at the Towson Invite.
- The sophomore ranks first in the 200m and third in the 400m in the conference.
- This is Alpha's first #AETF Track Athlete of the Week honor this season. 

Male Rookie of the Week
Justin Febles, UMBC – Fr.
- Febles finished first in the 400m at the Towson Invite, running 54.59.
- The first-year’s time ranks third in the conference and first among freshmen.
- This is Febles' first #AETF Rookie of the Week honor this season.
