#AEBASE Week 4: Binghamton Splits With Missouri

BOSTON – For the second straight week an #AEBASE program took down a Power 4 program, as all seven different programs came away with at least one victory this past weekend.

Binghamton outlasted Missouri 8-7 in 13 innings on Friday night and then edged the Tigers 5-2 in seven innings on Sunday. UAlbany took two of three from Hofstra and Maine won twice against Bucknell while NJIT, Bryant, UMass Lowell and UMBC all won one game during the weekend.
 
Conference play begins this weekend as UMass Lowell travels to UMBC for a three-game series. The five other programs all compete this weekend and also play in at least one mid-week contest. Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of the #AEWLAX this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

#AEBASE Weekly Award Winners – March 11

Player of the Week
Gavin Noriega, Bryant – Sr., Outfield, Bronx, N.Y.
  • Hit .500 while slugging 1.143 with 10 RBI, 7 hits and five runs in a 2-2 week.
  • Started the week by going 2-for-4 with six RBI in an 11-1 win over Merrimack.
  • Finished week with two hits, three runs and a home run in a 7-4 win over Dayton.
  • This is Noriega’s third career #AEBASE Player of the Week honor..
 
Pitcher  of the Week
Caleb Leys, Maine – Jr., Pitcher, Middletown, R.I.
  • Tossed 6.0 perfect innings, facing the minimum of 18 batters with nine strikeouts in a 4-1 victory over Bucknell.
  • This is Ley’s second career #AEBASE Pitcher of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Matt Bolton, Binghamton – Fr., Outfield, Levittown, N.Y.
  • Hit .500 with at least two hits in all four games last weekend as Binghamton split a four-game series with Missouri.
  • Went 3-for-7 with one run and one highlight reel catch in centerfield in the bottom of the 10th to keep Binghamton tied with Missouri. The Bearcats won 8-7 in 13 innings.
  • Went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run in a 5-2 win over Missouri
  • This is Bolton’s first career #AEBASE Rookie of the Week honor.
