#AETF Week 6: Performing Against National Competition

BOSTON –  All nine #AETF schools were in action again competing against national competition with fields made up of the top collegiate athletes and professional athletes. Several athletes broke in to the top-10 in the conference, with 14 performances taking the top spot. In just over a month, all nine schools will descend upon Boston for the 2024-25 America East Indoor Track and Field Championship meet.


2024 #AETF Weekly Award Winners –  Feb. 4

Male Co-Field Athlete of the Week

Brian Luciano, Binghamton - Rs- So., Yorktown Heights, N.Y.

  • Luciano won the weight throw at the Penn State National Open, breaking his school-record with a toss of 21.37m

  • With a new person best of 70-1 /2, Luciano is the first Binghamton thrower to surpass the 70-foot mark in the weight throw 

  • Luciano's mark currently ranks second in the northeast and No. 27 in the nation.

 

Male Co-Field Athlete of the Week

Simone Menchini, UAlbany- So., Cossato, Italy

  • Menchini logged a school-record 7.66m to win the long jump at the Roy-al Rumble.

  • Menchini’s mark currently ranks second in the northeastern and No. 26 in the nation.

 

Male Track Athlete of the Week

Tyler Edson, UMBC - So., Eldersburg, MD

  • Edson crossed the line in 1:48.59 in the men’s 800m to set a new UMBC school-record

  • The Sophomore also ran the 1200m leg on the Retriever’s school-record DMR that clocked a time of 9:40.98, the nation’s 3rd fastest mark this season.

 

Male Rookie of the Week

Iyanuoluwapo Omisore, UMass Lowell– Fr., Lagos, Nigeria

  • Omisore clocked a new personal best in the 200m running 21.77 to place second at the BU Terrier Classic

 

Female Field Athlete of the Week

Alyssa Armitage, Binghamton– So., North Tonawanda, N.Y.

  • Armitage tied her school record height of 4.05m in the pole vault to finish fourth at the Penn State National Open

  • Her season best currently ranks first the conference  

 

Female Track Athlete of the Week

Chloe Whiting, Bryant– Jr., Randolph, NJ

  • Whiting shattered the Bulldog’s school record in the 5K by over a minute crossing the line in 16:11.17

  • Her time leads the conference and puts her in the top-50 nationally 

 

Female Rookie of the Week

Katie Schwaner, UMBC– Fr., Mechanicsville, Md.

  • Schwaner turned in the third-fastest conference time in the 800m this season crossing the line in 2:15.73
