COMPLETE RESULTS
BOSTON, Mass. – For the second consecutive year and the 11th time in league history, the UAlbany men’s and women’s track and field programs swept the America East Indoor Track & Field Championship with impressive performances on Sunday at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
On the women’s side, UAlbany pulled away in the afternoon, earning a second straight championship with 164.5 points. Bryant secured its best finish since joining the league by placing second with 141 points. Binghamton was third with 108.5, followed by UMBC (100), New Hampshire (87), UMass Lowell (72.5), Maine (40.5), Vermont (34) and NJIT (32).
The Great Dane men secured their second consecutive title by edging our UMass Lowell 170-135.5. UMBC came through with a third place finish thanks to 116 points, while Maine placed fourth with 96.5 points. Binghamton (95), New Hampshire (74), Vermont (47), NJIT (22) and Bryant (21) rounded out the field.
Binghamton’s Brian Luciano was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer, after winning the weight throw with a distance of 21.70 meters. Teammate Josh Stone was honored as the Most Outstanding Track performer after winning the 5K (14.09.60) and taking second place in the 3K (8:13.95).
UMBC’s Alpha Balde earned the men’s Coaches Award after totaling 20.5 points by placing in the 60 meters, 200 meters and 4x400 relay. UAlbany’s Tooni Ogunyeye was named the Most Outstanding Rookie after winning the 60 meters (6.72) and finishing second in the 200 meters (21.03).
Bryant’s Chloe Whiting was honored as the women’s Most Outstanding Track Performer and also claimed the Coaches’ Award after victories in the 5K (16:17.69) and 3K (9:28.56) as well as a strong performance in the 1-mile competition (4:57.04). She finished with 25 total points during the championship.
UAlbany’s Rebecca Valerie Barrientos Alpha was selected as Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning the triple jump (12.88m) and placing fourth in the long jump (5.71m). Sarah Moore from New Hampshire was honored as the Most Outstanding Rookie after taking second in the long jump (5.85m), fifth in the high jump (1.65m), and eighth in the 60 meters (7.81).
Joseph Mucci of NJIT claimed the men’s Elite 18 award. The senior mathematical sciences major owns a 4.0 GPA. On the women’s side, Penelope Paldino earned the Elite 18 award with a 4.0 in Biomedical Anthropology.
The women’s Coaching Staff of the Year Award was awarded Bryant, after a second place finish while UAlbany took home the men’s Coaching Staff of the Year Award.
