2025 #AETF Championship Begins on Saturday

BOSTON - All nine #AETF schools will once again travel to the historic Boston University indoor track this week for the 2025 America East Indoor Track and Field Championships. The two-day event, beginning Saturday, February 22nd, will be streamed live on ESPN+.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW 

  • Last Year: The River Hawk were crowned America East Men's Outdoor Champions for the second consecutive year with a total of 167 points. On the women’s side, UAlbany  took home the trophy with 243 points for the 15th consecutive year and 17th all-time.  

  • Regional Rankings: Ten out of the 18 men’s and women’s teams are currently ranked top 25 in their respective regions. The UAlbany men are the only team on either side within the top-10 in the region at No. 4.

 

WOMEN'S ATHLETES TO WATCH

Alyssa Armitage, Binghamton - Armitage has won the last two #AETF Pole Vault titles and is  looking to become the first athlete to win three-straight since Andrea Stuermer won four-straight between 1999 and 2003.  Armitage heads in as this year’s favorite with a season and lifetime best of 4.05m. 

Jenna Chan, Binghamton - The two-time 60m hurdle champion returns for her senior campaign looking to claim her 3rd 60m hurdle title after finishing second last year . Chan is currently ranked first on the #AETF leaderboard.

Stephanie Green, UAlbany - Green finished fourth in the weight throw at last year’s championship. A UAlbany woman has won four of the last five weight throw competitions, and with her conference leading mark, Green looks to add to that number.

Jayani Santos, UMass Lowell - The Sophomore River Hawk has had a breakthrough season and has found a home in the 400m. She heads into this year’s championship as the top seed in both the 200m (24.81) and  400m (55.74)

Chloe Whiting, Bryant -Following her fourth place finish at the 2024 #AEXC meet Whiting has been on a tear this indoor season. She’s set personal bests in the Mile (4:54), 3K (9:44.75) and 5K (16:11.7), and leads the conference in that trio of distance events.

MEN'S ATHLETES TO WATCH

Joe Cardascia, Binghamton - Cardascia has earned a bronze medal in both the 500 in 2024, and 400 in 2023 and is looking to upgrade to his first individual gold medal. He leads the conference in the 500 this season with his 1:03.13. 

Tyler Edson, UMBC - The 2024 most Outstanding Rookie of the Meet is looking to defend his 800m title. The sophomore dipped under 1:50 for the first time in the half mile event running a school-record 1:48.58 in January. He lowered his school-record running 1:48.18 at the BU Valentine Invite in February.

Brian Luciano, Binghamton - Luciano, the 2024 Weight Throw Champion has been on a tear this season going undefeated in his main event. He threw over 21 meters for the first time in in January winning the Upstate challenge ( 21.20m)before bettering his mark to grab the gold at the Penn State National Open with a toss of 21.37

Luke Marsanskis, Maine - The 2024 #AEXC Champion earned second in the 5K last year in a photo finish. This weekend he looks to bring home the gold as he heads into the meet with the league’s best time.

Simone Menchini, UAlbany - The Sophomore from Italy is hoping to make an immediate impact in his #AETF Championship debut. He is the first long jumper in the conference to jump over 7.60 since Terrel Davis from Hartford did in 2020.
